Brian.
My father served with the 2nd Bn Buffs,36th Division,14th Army. Under command of General Stilwell’s Chinese-American Army. The Bn was flown from Ledo Assam to Nyaunbitintha in Burma in American Dakotas so overladen they had to remove the doors to be able to take off. After fighting down through Burma in 45 following the battle of Meklita the Bn was down to 100 men but all with dysentery and malaria they were then flown back to Imphal. He then spent 12 days on a hospital train from Imphal to Poona and 10 days in Poona Hospital. June 45 Bn refitted in Bombay, Nov 45 shipped to Singapore for suppression of Chinese Communists. Jan 46 shipped to Cape Town, April 46 shipped to Portsmouth. Here is a replacement 36th Div pagri my father obtained in India his original rotted off his hat in Burma.
