Guards Machine gun Regiment Good or bad
Dear forum
A Guards Machine gun regiment cap badge. Appears to be an Officers WM Quality badge a heavy badge and has some nice wear. I have found similar on various web pages it feels good in the hand no sharp edges definition lacking to rear of badge centre?. Is this a known copy or have I found a good one. Observations and comments appreciated I have the option to return. Regards Stephen |

Sorry but its a copy. The original OR badges were made with vertical shanks. I can't imagine a Guards Officer wearing such a thing. Alan |

Thank you Alan
I have just had email could it be a NCO's badge? I have raked through 20 pages on the GMGC on the forum looked at Albums etc and not found anything quite like this badge take a look at picture 3 and how thick this badge is, it is not one of the well known cheaply produced fakes that I have seen? Has anyone got one like this or indeed seen one. Regards Stephen |

Who would cast a badge on the Western Front? Nasty copy ground down crudely

Hi
I am not specialist but it looks like cast too. |

Officers in the Guards Machinegun Battalions wore silver and enamel badges rather than white metal, I think this badge is completely spurious and very crude, it lacks the detail that you would find upon rank and file white metal badges.

Sorry Stephen,
It’s definately a rough copy. I’ll let you know if I come across another. From time to time I’ll have a spare, and despite advice from some I like to let things go at fair-to-rock bottom prices. Best, Sean.

I am not sure the originator of the "NCOs' badge" idea but it's not correct in my opinion. All too often "NCOs' badge" is used by someone trying to sell it and it's usually tosh. Very, very, very few regts actually had NCOs' badges especially in wartime when there was better things to design (such as a new grenade or tank!)

Badge
Alan O
I beg to Differ The Grenadine Guards have their Senior NCO badge I have handled private purchas hallmarked cap badges worn in walking out dress very popular at this time,as was other Ranks carrying a swagger Stick again during WW 1 period Swagger sticks being the realm of SM /RSM' and officers in the not to distant future. It is just an unuseual constructed badge and I thought worthy to put to the forum for opinions IMO. Regards Stephen |

Fair to "rock bottom" prices?
The latter sounds particularly inviting! |
