Records of 320,000 Punjab soldiers from first world war uncovered
"Military files of Indian troops left unread in Pakistan museum for 97 years go online"
No, I'm not a "Grauniad" reader but I saw this and thought it may be of interest to some. I don't know whether it's old news, suddenly made "new" again by the media: https://amp-theguardian-com.cdn.ampp...-war-uncovered http://punjabww1.com/ |

That is going to be a great resource for research , it is a shame it took over 100 years to come to light.
I wonder how many other colonial era documents were filed away by the local authorities and forgotten about . I know that when the War Graves Commission visited numerous countries to try and identify the graves/bodies post WW1 a lot of documents/details were unavailable or had never been recorded. .

I thought I'd forward the links to Ashok Nath on the off chance that he wasn't aware of the resource - it turns out it was him that actually discovered the records in a museum in Lahore - and via an "influential friend" in the Pakistani military establishment - helped facilitate the project - although all of the funds and most of the work was done in the UK. It's a fabulous resource for family seeking information on ancestors especially as the records are captured at " village level " - rather than just unit. Tim
