Default "Bronzed" Wm SW Ltd Motto

Hi All

A very interesting ORs Smith & Wright Ltd motto. Its a white metal that's been Bronzed..... and at some later date has been painted black. The back of the Motto still has a good amount of the bronze left on it ....whilst the face has had all trace removed. There are traces of the black paint in the crevices of the face. That nice Great War type of milk chocolate Bronze... I would like to think its a 17th Lancer piece.... but there is no way of being sure sadly.

The WO nomenclature creates further confusion.

The WO uses the term "bronzed" (ie brown) but also as black.

They use 'bronzed' for eg many Yeomanry badges
They also use 'bronzed' for eg Rifle Brigade and many TF Rifle Battalions.

.... I use "bronzed" as the chemically applied process the factory uses to colour the metal(s).

This motto started out as a factory "Bronzed"....... and at some point in its later life, after a good bit of use, it had been blackened with black paint.

....update :- There are traces of the original "Bronzed" finish on the face of the motto.
