I would say the Royal Corps of Covert Operations. Very effective!
Seriously, I assume a picture will be forthcoming. Cheers,

Question Uniform ID

The man looks like a Sergeant in a Fusilier Volunteer Btn. pre 1902. Do you have any idea of the location where the photo was taken to give a better idea of which Fusilier Regt he was serving in?

Thanks for your replies, not sure why you can't see the photo, I can see it in the thread.

The man is George Majo (my 2 x Great-grandfather) 1859 - 1939, I presume the 3 chevrons make him a sejeant and the star above that a colour or staff serjeant?

He lived in Salford, Lancashire all his life.

Possibly Lancashire Fusiliers then.
I did wonder, having what appear to be white facings, a non- royal Regiment.

Many thanks, around 1860 - 70, who old would you have to be to sign up? How long would it take to get to serjeant?

You may be able to download his service records from various websites, try 'Forces War records', 'Ancestry', 'National Archives', 'Find My past', etc

He is indeed a Lancashire Fusilier from one of the Volunteer battalions, not regular, from the 1890s. He is also a musketry instructor. Must have been quite a good shot.

I hope this helps. The efficiency star is for five years reported as efficient, they do not have to be consecutive.

Excellent, many thanks, what makes him a musketry instructor?

Excellent, many thanks, guess thats the 5 pointed star (for 5 years)? Do you know what the 4 point star would be for (above the 3 cheverons)?
