2 Argyll and Sutherland's

I know there can be many variations of a standard badge but would anyone know if these two are just that or something else, first has a smaller circlet and font with overlapping leaf at the bottom, the second would seem to be a narrowed version with leaves tucked in at the sides.

They appear to be alright from I can see, but as always, the reverse is the key.
There seems to be so many variants of this badge it is hard to pin them down.

Thanks you Conrad, I'm not doubting they are OK just more interested in exactly when and perhaps by who used them if anyone knows, they are fine and nicely struck the left one is light in weight compared to the regular types found.

I reckon just makers variations.

Whilst solid is the earlier pattern I’ve a solid badge which I’m 100% sure is of WW1 manufacture. Perhaps it was a mistake or the manufacturer couldn’t be bothered, it raises the potential possibly for some to be much later than they should and that would mean more dies and variations.

Personally I think both are lovely crisply detailed examples without any large die flaws, if you ever wanted to move either on please let me know!

I too agree that they are just maker variants. I am also firmly of the opinion that the solid back badges continued to be made long after they were supposed to be replaced with the voids.
