LRDG patch
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW2-Briti...-127635-2958-0
I saw this on Ebay and just assumed it wasn't going to be right, not from any knowledge but purely because there is so much LRDG stuff that isnt right, but when I was looking through the my viewed items to find something else I noticed the price, wow |

LRDG
Such is the demand for original special forces items that collectors get carried away when bidding, sadly this has made more money probably more than original, if available with provenance would make at specialist auction.
It's a whole new industry making fake badges for SF units and who can blame them, apart from serious collectors and members of this forum. Rob |

Really its a shame to have it confirmed as someone has lost out there, but I dont really know a great deal about those items, and it was sufficiently odd for me to casually look then ignore it

Hopefully a tuition fee that is well spent.

I would have liked to see the title in the flesh, but my impression from the images was that it was an original wartime issued LRDG title, albeit faded and in poor condition.

LRDG title
Of course we are all looking at a screen image, nothing like handling the item.

I didn't like it because the threads looked like the 'thicker' ones seen on recent reproductions.

Are there any known original examples that look like this one? |

Is the linking of threads between letters on the front of LRDG titles a tell-tale sign of reproduction? Often seen on a particular set of Commando fakes. Certainly not an expert on LRDG stuff ... just very careful.
Having just said that - Some Talk of Private Armies by Len Whittaker shows linking threads to front in illustration of item 6 - unless my eyes are letting me down. Also, very similar form and dimension of letters. |

I agree with Keith. Mike B points out a similarity with photo #6 in STOPA. Another comparison of interest is the LRDG title shown on page 233 of Oliver Lock’s book “Airborne Insignia Volume 2.” I also notice a similarity to ILRS titles, in the thread and distinctive Arabic slant of lettering. I wouldn’t dismiss this one yet, just my opinion.
Stay well, Donovan
