Default South Wales Borderers Cap Badge

Is this badge an original or a copy? It is all silver anodised with an unmarked slider. As far as I am aware the SWB badge is gold/silver anodised.
Thank you,
Ian

Ian, the original anodised alluminium SWB cap badge is made by and marked on the slider by W.M Dowler - (Dowler Birmingham on the slider). This is the example that is on the actual pattern card.

What you have I believe us a 1970's copy that is unfinished, as it has only had the silver anodising applied and awaits the gold colour.

I have one of these unmarked examples too. The sphinx has a very elongated face ( looking rather more like a Victorian Judge).

Pic attached, a bit dark though.

Regards all

Bess

Is the anodised SWB badge with the Smith & Wright mark a fake?

I believe that if the design shows on the reverse it is a copy, originals should have a plain reverse.

Please can say how you know this as I have a Timmings badge and would like to know if it is definitely fake or not?

It's not my collecting field, I just have a few random examples and having just examined them they do have a plain reverse except the SWB, so do all genuine anodised badge have a plain reverse?

Jack.

Hi Jack, I think Jerry is referring to the reverse of the badge itself being plain for original not the slider when maker marked.

Bess55,

Thank you. Very interesting. I suppose the makers stamp would be put on after all the anodising was completed. Yes, definitely a very sombre løøk^ng judge.
Best regards,
Ian

Chaps, when I get a moment, I'll post some better pics and the rear of the Dowler example.

Thank you,

I notice the thread starter looks quite a bit like the gaunt with no nipples but with an ugly face

The description stated by the seller on eBay stated the badge to be anodised silver aluminium. In reality, and when received, it turned out to be chromium plated!!! The badge is on its way back to the seller. Disappointing because I contacted the seller for confirmation and then he sent a completely different badge. His excuse was that he was guided by the auction's description when he obtained the badge. Lesson learned - watch out for the cowboys!!!
