RCA Title Collection
From an older collection of Canadian cloth insignia here in the states. Nothing earthshaking or scarce but a good display. I had not paid that close of attention to this branch prior but a number of lesser seen titles appear on the board.

Hi Irish. Thanks for posting the board. There is quite a mix of wartime and post-war titles, plus a couple of Patch King repros. The wider (taller) type titles are wartime and the postwar are shorter.
The L.C.T. title is not an RCA title. Most of the units that have been labelled as batteries are regiments. The LOC units are Locating Batteries or a Locating Regiment. 2 SSM TRG BTY is 2 Surface to Surface Training Battery. For a period of time in the late 50's early 60's the RCA had an Honest John ssm battery.

Hello Bill, thanks for the ID and clarification on some of these titles.

Hi Bill,
Which ones are the Patch King repros? Cheers, Keith |

24 RCA and 25 RCA appear to be Patch King replicas.

Those are both on a blue background, for reference. Thanks

The background colour on all RCA titles was supposed to be royal blue, which is almost black. This was "lost in translation" by several manufacturers and some titles were made on black. This is true for the wartime titles. The post war ones were all on dark royal blue. To see the blue they may have to be taken into bright sunlight.

Sorry, meant to add the Patch King ones are a obvious lighter blue.

Hi Bill, blue which is nearly black in English English is usually called navy blue. Royal blue is more like the shade of the early RCA titles one sees. Maybe it did get lost in translation, best wishes Mike

Mike, I am using the terms used in documentation. The blue was labelled as Blue #3 by the Master General of Ordnance (Canada) and is described variously (depending on the document author) as navy blue or dark blue or royal blue. As Shakespear said, a colour by any other name...
The royal blue with red (supposed to be scarlet) embroidery was symbolic of the colours of the Royal Canadian Artillery.

Nice display. (Labels need some corrections.)

Is this a reproduction?

Yes most likely. The boards were done by a female collector in the 60s-70s and displayed at local insignia shows. Thanks
