Wessex Wyvern
Attached scans for your amusement.
a) Seasick Wyvern- green and yellow! How about I start a tale by saying it was worn by Seaborne Recce... b) Appears to have eaten too many blue lollies by the state of it's tongue Stephen.

Quite a nice looking badge, there are some on the forum with red bits on, interested in the story. Regards Mark

Back in the 80's a Cambridge dealer told me that some Wessex Div. signs to be worn by infantry were produced with red tongues to the Wyvern and some were produced with blue, I think he said for RA.
That's the only reference to the red / blue details that I've heard. |

The debate about 43 (Wx) Inf Div signs goes on for ever. I remain of the opinion that red additions to the basic design could have been to indicate Div HQ personnel and blue ditto for members of the three Bde HQs. That aside I use this one as my bench mark - worn by Capt John Corner Int Corps, 57 Field Security Section in 1944.

= = = Thanks to all who contributed. I'm still unsure as to the authenticity of these due to the amount of spaghetti on the back (Italian made?). I think the seasick version is definitely a dud, but what about the other blue tongue lizard? Stephen.

There's a second edition, correcting some mistakes in the first?
Somehow I'd completely forgotten that I had a copy and so it didn't occur to me to take it off the shelf and check Wessex Div. |

The idea of different units does not work for me. More likely it's maker's variation or a change in design because the first one was not liked.

The blue tongue/claw version is correct and was worn by the 43rd Recce troops. Reference to this is found in the War Diary Mike.
