Default CEF Restrikes?

Hi, I'm posting on behalf of my Father as he doesn't have the internet, unless he's visiting me.
He's been a collector of British badges for a long time and is branching into Canadian.
When we look online we often see CEF badges that are cast with a Gaunt back pin stamp.
Dad doesn't like the look of them and wondered if anyone had their own opinion, in terms of whether they are known for being reproductions or not?
Thank you

Hello Hel22,
Welcome.
CEF badges have long been subject to reproductions. There are phoney Gaunt plates that have been added to phoney badges. There also may be some good Gaunt plates put on phoney badges. If he wishes to start a CEF collection, I would suggest buying only from reputable dealers or vendors who will give a money back guarantee. There are many threads on the Forum about Gaunt plates and reproduction badges and they are helpful. The CEF gallery is also a great reference.

Thank you, I've past that on.

I will also go through the other threads and hopefully print those off.

It's certainly interesting & concerning that they would fake the makers mark, nothing they won't do.
