VC Winner in Autograph book
I help in a Charity Shop in the UK and we recently had an autograph book donated containing many names, mostly from show business it seems.
There is also a Brigadier General. V.G. Smythe. VC. MC. MP. Found him on Wikipedia, a long military career, both ww1 and ww11, bit controversial at the end...Burma...Indian troops. I was just wondering, does anyone know whether his signature is common? ....what sort of value could the Shop put on such an item? Other recognisable signatures so far, are Gracie Fields and Maurice Chevalier. |

Not someone I'd heard of before. Ironically, the other signatures might be more valuable. Mind you, most people nowadays have probably never heard of Gracie Fields or Maurice Chevalier. I think you'd have to take it to a reputable book dealer or one who specializes in autographs to get some idea of the value. Maggs in London might be able to help you. You can Google their address.

I think this signature is of Sir John George Smyth, V.C., M.C., M.P. He wrote the autobiography, "The Only Enemy" (a good read) and was for many years head of the Victoria Cross Association. Cheers, Tinto |

Ooops!
Thanks for replies, J. G. Smythe not V.G!
I guess we need to try and identify the other signatures in the book. |

I would have to Google Gracie Fields and Maurice
