Default 39th Foot Glengarry

Hi Gents,

Purchased this recently have been after one for ages. I would like to know why it has cut off original lugs and replacements fitted. Is this due to being used on a different type of head dress during its use. Thoughts also on being authentic as all Glengarry badges have been widely reproduced.

Thanks,

Colin.

While the vast majority of these Glengarry badges are fake, this one looks like it might be a good one.
No idea why the lugs were replaced, but the stumps of the old ones appear to be brass, which is a good sign.

Hi CB,

This was bought from a dealer a few weeks ago, read on the forum that lugs were all ways brass and the removed ones were. Also lugs were fitted north and south on original glengarry badges but on mine they are west east is this correct for this badge. Have been trying to find a thread on this badge on the forum without success can anybody point me in the right direction. Would be great to see the reverse of this badge from another collector for comparison.

Thanks for the positive input CB.

Colin.

It’s not the case that all these badges had North South lugs, this pattern to the 39th would be a candidate for East West lugs due to the structure of the Badge.

Geoff McWilliam's splendid work relating to Glengarry badges, states that this particular item was lugged E/W, confirming Paul's last point.

Regards.
