Stolen V.C.!!!!!
I wonder if anyone else has been following this fascinating "saga" in the national newpapers or on the GWF.
I had a phone call from the local press earlier this week, they had been given my name as a local collector who might be able to give some information on the value of the "stolen " medals. It now transpires that the medals were repros and the person who reported the theft has been arrested for wasting police time and has recieved a fixed penalty fine. http://www.crewechronicle.co.uk/crew...6135-26766383/ A number of other members of the GWF also seemed to think the tale did not seem to ring true. I have just had my copy of the free local newspaper through the door which is still running the original story. There are some great people in this hobby of ours but now and again you come across an individual and wonder if they are on the same planet as the rest of us. P.B.

Hello All,
Interesting article, I note the offenders name. Nothing to do with me though, besides I wish I was 30 again. I'm also on the other side of the world. Cheers to all, Phil Jones. (Drummajor) |

I was following this story on the BMF. Soon as the photos were posted, many questioned the originality of the set. It came out that the set was a replica set immediately.
In my opinion, I am not certain the fellow was out to deceive anyone.

Innocent?
Part of the headline:-
"A CREWE man who said he was “devastated” when a Victoria Cross worth £250,000 was stolen from his home has been arrested for wasting police time. Thirty-year-old Phil Jones sparked a police investigation when he claimed the medal, belonging to his great uncle Thomas Neely, had been stolen during a sneak-in burglary.... etc etc"..... Looks like deceit to me and he got caught out. Good. Had no one challenged it, it would have started out as a very nice insurance scam..... I don't suppose he will even get a caution. What he should get is a bill for the wasted police time. |
