ULSTER & CINQUE PORTS SIGNALS QUESTION
Hi Folks
Quick question which Signals Units wore the white on blue cloth titles 'ULSTER' and 'CINQUE PORTS' and were they worn separately or attached to a 'ROYAL SIGNALS' title. Cheers Sean |

AA Command’s 51st (Ulster) AA Brigade applied in 1949 application to wear a red on blue ‘Ulster’ subsidiary arm title. The War Office Dress Committee approved a red on blue title in March 1950 but four versions were listed when introduced into service in May 1951; red on blue for Gunners, white on blue for the Brigade signal squadron and yellow on blue for its MT Company and REME AA Workshops. WRAC serving with Mixed Regiments, the Fire Command Troop, Signal Squadron and MT Company adopted a version with white letters on beech brown as shown.
When 44th (Home Counties) Signal Regiment absorbed 62nd Signal Regiment (Cinque Ports) in 1962 the new regiment adopted the supplementary title ‘Cinque Ports’ in Royal Signals colours, its use extended in May 1963 to WRAC attached to 44th Signal Regiment. Jon |
