Default 63 Signal Regiment WW2/Post WW2

Hi

I'm looking for any information on this badge, believed to be 63 Signal Regiment c 1949. I can't seem to find anything online. It was from a WRAC uniform picture

Thanks

It's the sign of Aldershot District, not specific to any regiment or corps, adopted in 1948.

For administrative purposes the postwar Army in the UK was divided into geographical Commands eg Northern, Western etc with each command then subdivided into Districts such as Aldershot District. Both Commands and Districts wore distinctive cloth signs.

The District sign would have been worn by units serving in that District which had a defined role within that District eg as the District Signal Regiment. So it is possible that your sign was worn by a Royal Signals unit

I can't find a 63 Signal Regt in my sources but perhaps a Signals guru can help?

Jon

Thanks Jon, I'm not convinced about the Signals connection as there isn't a previous mention of that, so might have been incorrect. The fact no 63rd Signals comes up easily maybe backs that.

63 Signal Sqn was formed in 1967. Formed in part from 63 Signal Regt.

It isn't the 1967 squadron that would be connected, can you tell me anything about the 63 Signal regiment ? I've not managed to find anything ? All searches go to 63 Squadron. Cheers

Details about 63 Signal Regiment can be found in :

"The Royal Corps of Signals Unit Histories of the Corps (1920-2001) and Its Antecedents" By Cliff Lord and Graham Watson.

Thanks so looking at that, it was absorbed into Southern Command in 1955, which could mean the badge in 1949 was for the Signals alone, as it was formed 1947 to look after Signals in the southern area. Would love to hear from Cliff if he can add anything to the female connection, I'll look in more detail in the book though. Thanks for the reference.
