A cap with the badge at under $40!? A snip!
He clearly reads this as the new listing makes no reference go the RCAF at all. The bloke is a joke, and he reckons he's been collecting and dealing for 50 years!!! |

The use of motorcycle police badge by an RCAF airman is certainly a possibility.

Would the fact that this is a US 'federally registered trade mark' preclude RCAF from adopting it post 1933 when it appears to have been designed
http://statepatrol.ohio.gov/merch.stm extract As the Ohio State Highway Patrol was being established in 1933, the responsibility for badge design fell into the hands of Harry Neal, who in turn assigned the task to Mr. Joseph Goldberg, an engineer in Neal's Safety Department. The badge design was partially inspired by a study of others, but the "Flying Wheel" was originally Goldberg's idea. Though he had difficulty selling the flying wheel to Neal (who jokingly asked if they were duck, chicken, or eagle wings), Goldberg had created our symbol. The Flying Wheel, which is a federally registered trademark, is now one of the most distinguishable images of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. |

Hi victor, I notice the relisting as well. Will have to see if there is any interest in it this time around.
Re the federal trademark question, preliminary research indicates that the trademark protection is not extended internationally.

Yes it is the same piece.
Also looks like the seller changed the starting bit from $100 to $200 |

Thanks for that Ron. I was wondering if I saw that correctly when I checked this morning. Doubled in price overnight.

I note from a link on a recent post on this forum that the Belgian Army railway troops were wearing a similar badge in brass from 1915. The wings are more up-swept than they are on this one.
