Well spotted Peter! Assuming Ethel is female (?) she must have been well ahead of her time to have carved out a career for herself in photography.

I have just come across this thread. It is definitely Ethel m radon’s signature. I have a photographic portfolio folder which has her signature across the front. Were you able to confirm who the soldier was in the photograph?
