Any Palestine Police experts?
Hi Folks
I have a large framed photo, I suspected it when I bought it that it might be an early Palestine Police or Palestine Gendarmerie picture. Does any one have any comments on what they think it might be. Cheers Sean |

Sean,
Member Eddie Parks is probably the man for this. He is on the Forum from time to time so perhaps worth a PM. Tim

Having a friend (now deceased) who was in the Palestine Police and remembering all the pictures I saw, In all his photo’s in uniform, whether on patrol or parade, everyone was in a peaked hat. I would imagine more Gendarmerie than police. Try to Google either one. Regards, D.J.

The headgear they are wearing is called a "Kalpak" and it was worn by both the police and its forerunner the Gendarmerie. The police latterly did wear a peaked cap.

I'm guessing the photo is early, possibly 1920's

I'm not all that sure but wouldn't the senior officers at least be British?. The entire complement here look turkish/ottoman

It had crossed my mind too, there are some suspiciously Turkish looking moustaches,

They might possibly be members of the Trans-Jordan Frontier Force. Not many cap badges on view though.

Its difficult to date it but they may be a group of the Arab Section of the Palestine Gendarmerie, or the Arab section of the Palestine Police. I suspect the latter, and at a wild guess I would say the officer seated centre is Eugene Patrick Quigley.
