Boer war military type badge ?

Hello folks.
Got this recently in a lot of very early button badges depicting Queen Victoria.
I think it may be Kitchener or Roberts depicted on the centre piece and looking at the construction it appears the centrepieces could be changed quite easily.
Does anyone have any ideas as to its original purpose or could anyone give me some pointers to an avenue of research i could undertake
