Hi there thanks for your interest, not sure I've tried to clean a small area with silver cleaner and the tarnish came straight off! Badge dosen't feel like modern repro, might be theatre made and silver plate. hope that helps a bit! Regards Charles

What makes you think it was someone in the forum? Are you based in Christchurch?

Shawn, it was a question,

eg, who here would have paid 500 pounds for the badge listed? eg "Would you pay 500 pounds for the badge that was listed?"

not, who on the forum paid 500 pounds for the badge

and no mate, not in CH-CH but lived there for sometime, many good freinds down that way.

As i have alluded to,there are good copies of this badge around. This one complete with an attempt of a assay mark is being sold as a copy on a New Zealand internet site. This is the third copy in about six months that i have seen on internet auction sites.Copies ,rare?,ask yourself.

I might go and see Dave today with me loupe and look at this one. I suppose copes rare is a relative term . PPA is a rare badge but look at how many copies. Sacred Squadron is a rare badge again look at how many copies. And then there is LRDG badge........ 99.999999999% copies.

Very keen to see what your thoughts are Shawn after having a look at it, was the restrike done here in NZ? or is this something from afar, and I would also be very keen to see a close up of the hallmarks, to see how close they got it persay.

Kind regards

I will have some detailed photos soon.

This one came from the Fielding area about 7 years ago. There was an antique shop down there selling these copies. They are cast and hand finished roughly and Dave tells me the others he has seen have the hallmark in the same place which as you will be aware is a tell tale sign considering it is manually applied.

The badge showed all the signs of casting under magnification.

Always hard to tell from grainy photo's.On closer inspection, maybe a few question marks.Certainly the hallmark is inconclusive. If it is a cast badge Brent, its certainly a better quality (on the back at least) than the cast copy i have pictured earlier in the thread.Very scary.

cheers iain
