Default Royal Scots Greys

Could I ask opinions on this one, is it a genuine badge?
Tony.

I’m not sure if it makes it a fake, but I don’t like the bottom edge of the Waterloo scroll where the letters blur into the border.

Not keen on it - the style of font looks modern and rather like the known restrikes on ebay.

Default Firmin

The flaws below the Waterloo letting are synonymous with the Firmin die.

It's the lettering on the brass scroll I am wary about.

If you look in my victorian cavalry album you will see one which I am certain is genuine. The same badge was worn for decades so there will be several dies but I suspect lugs were first used and then switched to sliders pre WW1 onwards.

Thanks Luke, so you think this one is OK?

The badge in the opening post is certainly from the Firmin die. It is also certainly not of early manufacture where one would expect loop fixings.

Whilst I’m not aware of these being restruck from the original Firmin die it is admittedly not one I’ve actively researched. Personally the badge in post #1 isn’t one I’d buy or have in my collection. I don’t like it at all in fact.

Of concern for me apart from the obvious on the back is what looks like a new flaw on the last O of Waterloo - which isn’t present on the marked genuine example above.
