Unknown Hunting Horn Helmet plate
Hi all,
Here is a GM OR's QVC helmet plate but am not sure which regiment it belongs to. It is one piece and the hunting horn could be Durhams, Oxfordshire, Shropshire etc so am not sure as surrounded by standard Royal garter. Two lugs east-west removed when mounted. Thoughts appreciated but would like it to be Durhams! Cheers Dean. |

This "Bugle Horn" plate was worn by the New Zealand Vol Corps, from 1882 to 1895, when a more specifically NZ Plate was introduced. See Corbett p59.
No doubt the plate was worn by others, not being "anchored" to any named corps. |

Hi Dean
I saw one of these on the forum a couple of years ago, can't remember if it was in an album or a post, but described as a general pattern light infantry plate. I have one and had thought it was just a NZ plate, but it may have been used in Britain as well. Cheers, Alex |

NZ Vols
Thanks Alex,
Appreciate the note. Yes and seeing as the number of hunting horn device badges attributed to Rifle Volunteer units I could well imagine this to be the case as a general light infantry helmet plate. I bought a framed collection for couple of British badges I didn't have and it makes a fun project to sort through them and trade on those you don't need or collect to. But then again if I had saved my money I may well have secured a Leicesters militia batt badge I fancied! Cheers Dean |
