Default 10 th Hussars Tent Hat

STM,

For your info 10th Hussar Tent hats were first worn in the 1890's around the same time as the 8th Hussars. I can confirm that They did have *HM silver badges *

HM silver ? Thank's, Tony.
Do all 21 (1897-2008) hussar regiments (Inc, The LD) have these tent caps ?
If so, do you know what badges wear worn and how many were different to the officer's FS cap badges or was it only the 10H that wore a different badge ?
Specifically metal badges, not embroidered.
STM.

8th Hussars started to wear a tent cap in 1909.

It's very good, but I'd like to buy a modern version of tent cap worn by the Queen's Royal Hussars. Maybe it's in defense ministry retail shop?

Cherrypicker,
I was at Stratford Arms Fair Last Sunday and speaking to one of the dealers Peter Taylor a member of this forum and noticed he had an Officers Tent Cap Badge.I am in no way connected to him but have bought many badges over the years from him.
I am sure if you e-mailed him or sent him a PM it may lead to both of you advantage.
Regards
Bantam

Thank you, Bantam, but I need a cap itself, not a badge.
Maybe it's possible to purchase an officer's tent cap of QRH in regimetal museum or something like this?

Default ref 14th Hussars

IMO, No. The finish doesn't look too good at all - i.e. the detail and the edge pattern.

IMO it looks like a modern copy. The one I have has the same shape - "sunk crown" etc but the finish looks a lot different. I will dig mine out and post a pic of it. You might want to ask him what the dimensions are and a picture of the back - this will help.

Cherrypicker,
Heres 2 pictures of mine which I believe to be genuine - but who can tell.....
Pic1 - the full badge - I didn't use flash - otherwise you won't see anything - its on a tripod and wide open aperture.
Pic2 - if you compare the harp & maid detail you can also see a lot of differences in the Maids face and body.
If you copy and paste the images into a word document or PSP its easy to make out other differences as well - not just the finish - the MENTE ET MANU scroll also looks different.
Hope this helps.

A superb, if very un-British looking, cap and badge. Can the hallmarks on the badge be dated?

Thank's Tony,
That is a very fine example of both the tent cap and the badge and I too am very interested in the hallmark date and any information on the inside of the cap, if any.
Also, was this pattern of badge worn upto amalgamation with 11H - I have handled very good quality silver and gilt badges, but can't decide if they're genuine or not, because they look so new.
Did the Royal Hussars continue to wear this pattern after 1969 ?
Any info appreciated.
STM.
