As far as I am aware the RH did not but the QRIH (former 8th) were the only regt to retain it.

Is that the badge shown in K&K Vol 2 at 1928 ?
Do you know if it was retained again for QRH after 'options for change' ?
I know the QRH officers wear a different pattern badge on their beret, which is alot like the NCO's metal arm badge, but embroidered.
But I'm not sure what they are wearing on other head-dress.

I don't think the QRIH wore badges on their tent caps - I certainly remember one of their CO's in 1989 having a tent cap but with no badge. Last time I met one the QRH Officers were still wearing the tent cap but also without a badge. The beret badge is embroidered gilt and silver thread and is unpopular as it soon degrades into a 'pineapple' shape which is what it is unfondly referred to as.

STM,

Alan beat me it too it , he is correct the QRIH did continue to wear the 8th Hussar pattern tent hat after the amalgamation in 1958. (4th/8th Hussars)
The QRH also wear the same pattern, after the amalgamation of the QOH QRIH in 1993.
They do however wear a sil/gilt cap badge in service dress , when wearing the red hat .
They did wear the embroidered gilt and silver thread on the service dress with a scarlet backing which ceased around 2003 ish

They never wore a cap badge in the Tent Hat

Has it been the 18th Hussars cap badges (last pattern completely in white metal) with sliders?

Mike,

The all brass economy badge cannot be what it says. By 1915 the regiment had got rid of the badge with the eagle and moved to the large cartwheel badge. Economy badges did not come into use until 1916.

Michael,
I would expect a genuine badge to have a slider, be correctly voided (No solid crown) and die struck.
In the last ten years a very well made badge with a slider has appeared on the market and this is made from cast silver, avoid it. It is flat backed and slightly smaller than the originals.
Any badge under 40mm in height are suspect.

I have a near identical one with WW2 provenance. The crisp back and the brazing holes and the long slider are all good signs.
