Default CAR-WOODS-Screwpost

Hi

Below is the screw post "WOODS MFG OTTAWA" badge to the Canadian Airborne Regiment that I recently got.

Why screw posts? Not for a beret then? Buckle maybe?

Please note: THE INFORMATION FREELY VOLUNTEERED, AND NOT UNDER ANY SORT OF DURESS OR INTIMIDATION, BY MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM IN REGARD TO THIS POST MAY, REPEAT MAY, BE USED TO ENHANCE THE SALE OF IT BY VIRTUE OF ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE AT SOME POINT SOME DAY IN THE FUTURE. AND I APPRECIATE THAT.

Thank you.

regards
Darrell

Default Screw Post Cap Badge

It could also be an association item.

Hi Ed

I had thought of that also. I just don't know.

Here it is compared to some of the hat badges I have.

regards
Darrell

Leaning towards the buckle idea.

The Canadian Parachure Regiment badges are not well documented. Amazing number of badge varieties for the unit.

Darrell, could you post an image of the reverse of the badges?

Hi Phil

Thank you for that link. I had seen it in my search prior to posting but as mine seems to be different than the one Mike showed, I posted.

Hi Bill

I don't have a pic of the reverse of the third badge handy but here's the other two.

regards
Darrell

I believe the one on the right to be the first issue. They were gilding metal and white metal as opposed to the plated, non-polish CF badges. It also has the slider found on pre-unification QC badges.

I agree with Phil. Both badges have the earlier pattern sliders (though different from each other, suggesting a different run), without the ball end. (What is the correct term for that type of end?)

Default Buckle

The screw post badge is a belt buckle badge designed to fit on the standard CF belt plate. Screw posts were not allowed to be produced for CF cap badges; (although some units did at their own expense). The "ball end" slider, ( I have no idea what to call it either), appear later in the CF years, about 1974. Badges without ball end sliders can also be found well into the unification era, as units used up stock, if they were already using a slidered badge i.e the PPCLI.

Hi ddaydodger

Thank you for that. I don't know when Woods was marking badges like that and was leaning toward Association item.

The one with the shorter slider looks a bit different in the words.

regards
Darrell

Here is a photo of the belt plate in use. Also the Major has a solid cap badge, not cloth.

Date for the photo Bruce? Looks like Gov.Gen. E. Schryer?
An aside, those plastic waist belts were an abomination.
