The major appears to have an artillery pattern sword.
I thought 1st Airborne Battery became E Battery, 2 RCHA in 1977. Ed Schreyer didn't become Governor General until 1979. Ed, do you know when the airborne artillery and engineers switched from wearing The Canadian Airborne Regiment cap badge to their respective branch badges? Phil

Photo caption: "GG Ed Schryer inspects Guard of Honour from SSF Petawawa after investiture." Image number IS79-72. So as Ed S says, 1979. Also the lack of Airborne titles on their coat slip ons, but they are wearing SSF boots.
Even the Brits have gone to plastic belts. Last edited by ddaydodger; 24-02-16 at 10:25 PM. |

Hi Bruce, What data base does the number reference?
A lot of modern ceremonial dress has been economized to the point it looks cheap. Doesn't make anything look good.

It's a DND database, unavailable to the public, unfortunatly. We have been using plastic belts for almost 50 years, nothing new.
There was a lot of debate about what badges the non infantry should be wearing as part of the Airborne Regiment. The dress manual stated that ALL members shall wear the airborne cap badge. The signals, medical, air branch types, etc posted to the regiment put up a fuss and over the years and it switched back and forth. I will post the memo from DNDHQ as soon as I find it. Here is a photo 1982, with E Bty. |

It was surprisingly hard to find. Rarely do you see photos of the CAR on parade in anything other than smock and combats. I'm trying to find good photos of them in work dress, even harder.
