Default Preliminary Flying Badge

Badges initially authorised 1949 for pilot, navigator, signaller, engineer and gunner for award to flying personnel of the RAF Volunteer Reserve who had completed the prescribed tests and examinations. Also members of the WRAF Volunteer Reserve were eligible. Pilot badge reference was originally 22H/945, later relisted as 22H/1271422

Known as 'budgie wings' within the UAS and are awarded for completing a flying course.

Hello Jerry,

I believe that these wings are worn suitably qualified University Air Squadron Students following going solo.
