Was it just the late 70s then? I know there's the portrait of Capt Westmacott at Sandhurst wearing one, but was that just artistic license....?

Had a message from my little brother last night who has been working away. He saw a sandy beret in an antique/bric-a-brac shop and bought it on the off chance knowing my collecting proclivaties.
At the moment I've only got a couple of mobile phone pics from him as its in the post. It is leather banded and lined but with no label. It looks (to me) very similar in construction to the UN beret I was issued in the early 90s (which I'm pretty sure was a Compton Webb). I'll post some more pics when it arrives but from that I suspect that it may be too recent to be a genuine 60s, 70s or 80s version. |

Here we go.
To me the beret and badge both look good (as far as being issued), but do they belong together?! |

not an original ensemble imp
IMO this is NOT a period ensemble. I do like the guards flash on the beret, but the cap badge is recent.
You can find a nice 60s Capbadge and id replace it as a space filler. Regards Jon |

That's what I'd suspected.
I've got a lead on the supposed original owner, but if that turns out to be duff, as I fear it will, I'll do exactly that. What's the going rate for a 60s beret badge - its a couple of decades outside my usual timescale?! |

The badges around in the 60s were around from wartime stocks as well mate.
£125 + easily. |
