Pnr Corps Unit Designation
I'm researching the Faroe Islands Force and, in orbats of 1943 and 1944, have come across 9039 and 9040 Special FF Sections which were part of 35 Group Pnr Corps. The Group supported the RE units constructing an airfield and roads on the Islands. Does anyone know what the initials 'FF' stand for?

FF
Field Force, Firefighter or Frontier Force, according to the 'Dictionary of Military Abbreviations'. In this case, I think Field Force.

Pnr Corps FF Sections
Many thanks for your reply. I too had opted for Field Force!
However, I double - checked with the RPC Association and 'FF' actually stands for Fire Fighting. I always thought that the RASC, from 1965 the RAOC, were responsible for the Army's Fire Service. Thought you might be interested in knowing. Rgds, Tony Barnes. |
