RAF officers beret badge
An academic question to those in the know, but how common is the kings crown beret badge shown. I have collected RAF insignia off and on for thirty odd years and have come across this size badge only in Queens crown. Is it unusual or have they just been eluding me? Thank you.

I think they have just been eluding you. The metal version is fairly common, though not as common as the Edward Crown version (obviously). It can be found in two versions, with and without backing. The rarer version of the Tudor Crown badge is the bullion version.

Hi All,
I am looking for an officers war time badge for a display I'm putting together for my great great uncle. I have seen a few on offer on various sites but can anyone tell me what the size these beret badges are? I can see they are smaller than the ones worn on a peaked cap but what size are they both? Thanks a lot, Michael |

If you are putting together a WWII display then you don't need this type of beret badge. It wasn't introduced until 1949/50. You just need an officers FS cap badge of crown and eagle. For information the beret badges are 40mm wide and 45mm tall (without backing). Officers SD badges vary greatly in size and background shape so the dimensions wouldn't mean anything.

Thanks very much for the help Dave, I presume the SD badge would also have been worn in which case anything bigger than 40mm version would be right?

I have attached a comparison of SD and Beret badges. They are to the same scale.
