FAKE. EAST YORKS STAYBRITE
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/British-A...QAAOSwbp1fECiw
Never seen this before and i don't know the dealer, but this is in my point of view very very suspect. NB: Timings mark with a curled rather than flat 'G' |

Would the Timings mark have been applied at time of manufacture back in the 90's or would it be a more recent addition to the badge?

As far as I was aware they were applied at the time but after the badge was anodised. Chris has looked at this in depth I believe ,with high magnification you can see cracking in the anodising around the letters. This indicates that the makers mark has been applied post anodising.

Ta, I was aware of Timings markings being applied after manufacture and through the "crust" but thought it was a more recent occurrence than the 90's.

Is there a list of these ‘90s Gaylor fakes? If not it would be interesting and helpful to try compile one.

When Gaylor used to issue his lists with '' his '' anodised badges I can not recall any being marked at that time my young son was collecting a/a badges ,after Gaylors commissions he stopped collecting a/a badges

Here is a list of the badges that I attribute to Gaylor. This list was created some years ago now and may be found in my book on pages 150-151. As such, there maybe quite a few more. There is also some background information on these badges. Note that Mike H can also take some relief that the 12th Lancers is not on this list! Regards, Chris 2. The J. R. Gaunt & Son Limited Slider Type This unofficial commission first hit the market in the late 1980s and was well represented in many leading dealers lists by the early 1990s. The list of badges includes the following and collectors should add to this list as other similar badges come to light: 3rd (The King’s Own) Hussars 9th Queen’s Royal Lancers 358th (Suffolk Yeomanry) Medium Regiment, RA (TA) (only the large size version of this unit cap badge) The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment (non TA version) (sometimes with a fake ‘FIRMIN LONDON’ mark to slider) The East Yorkshire Regiment The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry (TA) The Parachute Regiment [Tudor] The Rifle Brigade [Tudor] The Royal Ulster Rifles [Tudor] The Royal Warwickshire Regiment (sometimes with a fake ‘SMITH & WRIGHT’ mark to slider) The South Wales Borderers The Welch Regiment Each was originally sold for around £25 from dealers lists and by prominent dealers of the day, in person, from under the Arches at Charing Cross. The badges represented a mixture of units that were officially authorised anodised aluminium cap badges and also of those that were not. Another dangerous fake but one that is easily identified by the lack of maker mark and ‘mirror’ reverse contouring which can be of an almost exact copy as the obverse. Although there is no direct evidence that J. R. Gaunt & Son Limited made these badges the discovery of the same slider type (usually Slider 6.9: Step) being used by both camps seems to imply, once again, that the sliders at least originated from a common source. |

......And ....... another jab on the thanks button.......
I remember seeing badges such as the anodised Kings Crown RB in a shop in Hythe in the 90's and being assured by the dealer that no one was faking up AA badges, far too expensive a process to do that..... |

Many off the list above were sold by John Gaylor in 1990 for £3 or less!
