The Blue Pennent with Red Circle is 'Flag Distinguishing Ordnance Depot' and flown at a RAOC Field Depot.

Not seen the Blue/Red/Blue Pennant before but probably localy made?

Also a very nice pair of RAOC 'Hose Tops' for wear with shorts.

Default HQ East Africa Command

The red/black pennant with the formation sign of East Africa Command superimposed is just that - HQ East Africa Command. Fort Jesus is a reference to a Portuguese-built fort in Mombasa which was captured by the Omanis in 1698 and was from 1895 a Kenya Government Prison.

The green pennant may have been flown on the last vehicle in a convoy which was normally the fitters truck and a practice carried on after the formation of REME.

Green Flag may well be a Convoy Flag, but they are normally rectangular, in bunting or today nylon.

Convoy Flags consist of:

White/Black Flag - Convoy Leader
Blue Flag - Packet Leader (A Convoy can consist of several packets)
Green Flag - End Packet
Red Flag - Hazard Load i.e. Fuel or Explosives
Yellow Flag (not illustrated) - flown on breakdown (carried by all vehicles)

Fitters Truck is normally in the end packet, even today.

Convoy Packet Colours can be shown as a coloured side light or rear convoy lamp at night.
