My reading of it is he can still take part in the parade as a squaddie, but will no longer be a standard bearer or other official due to insurance cover.

Interesting to note that he was "awarded" The International Submarine Service Medal. Why do people feel the need to add all these spurious awards to the ones that have been offically awarded. There is an old chap in my branch of the RBL who served for two years national service with the RAF. he served his entire two years in Lincolnshire yet wears no fewer than EIGHT medals on the various parades that he attends.
Very sad really ! PL |

Paul,
I agree, when my dad gave me his medals I don't think they had ever been out of the little envelopes until I had them mounted, its funny some people feel the need to buy additional medals whilst others don't seem to place any values on those they earned. Peter

How times have changed. If such an interview took place today I would bet that those involved would appear wearing medals, half a dozen association badges and perhaps even badge festooned berets. Is that a good thing? I suppose its is down to personal choice and personal opinion. For what its worth I prefer the 1960's version. Dave. |

I thought this wearing of commemorative medals, or whatever name they go by had been banned by the RBL, or perhaps it is just discouraged.
