Post Office Rifles Badge
Hi all, recently purchased this POR badge from The Medal Guy for £10 and was wondering if anyone could tell me if it was legitimate or not, thank you

Apologies.
I've changed my mind, to probably ok after having a better look and being able to see the reverse. Not keen on the letter Os and some of the distorted letters, however that may be caused by the quality of the picture. Regards. Brian |

Looks fine to me. Hard to tell if the seeding to the cross has been sanded off as with some Bedfordshire badges. That the only possible problem I can see. May just be the picture. Regards, Paul.

It does look like the cross has had an effort made to make the cross smooth/shiny. I expect that was taken into account with the price.
Link to the ones I have. I now have all the badges I picture. Regards, Paul. https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...+office+rifles |

Ooh, I see now, thank you, I had made an effort to purchase this badge as my great great uncle served in the POR and sadly lost his life at the second battle of passchendaele 1917. I thought it would be a nice token of remembrance, thank you again.

Good on you. We will remember them. My great uncle was London Scottish. Regards, Paul.
PS I expect your relative was in the 2nd Battalion of the 8th Londons, - 2/8th Battalion, who took part at Third Ypres-Passchendaele. Is his name remembered at Tyne Cot or does he have a grave? Last edited by wardog; 29-07-22 at 11:41 PM. |

I have a small history booklet of the regiment in the Great War, published 1919, that belonged to my neighbour who's medals and cap badge I now have. There is also a book Terriers in the Trenches that covers the POR during the war. Regards, Paul.

Looks to be rather expensive to buy second hand at the moment- might be best to see if your library can get it for you before looking to buy. I don't know if anyone has put it online.
I am though happy to scan pages from the 1919 booklet if you would like. Any dates such as enlistment and death dates? Probably no more than 12 pages, 6 scans. Regards, Paul. |
