British Army Boxing help
Hello.
I was wondering if I could get some help from the forum members. Although not primarily interested in badges, more of a medal man myself. I have a request. Attached is an old photograph of my grandfather from his Army boxing days. No one remembers what regiment he served in. He passed away a few years back. On the front of his vest is a cloth badge which I assume is his regimental emblem. Would anyone be able to tell me what regiment he served in from this? Thank you for your time. |

I am only a novice and I am sure the experts will soon come up with the correct answer but it looks like The King's Regiment to me. The 1st Battalion The King's Regiment was also serving in Berlin in 1950/1951 which appears to be written on the sign in the bottom left of the photograph.

It looks like the Kings to me as well.
I understand the regiment was very keen on boxing.Attached are pictures of a Kings Regt Sports badge and a picture of the 2nd Battalion Boxing Team 1930. I will see if I can find pictures of the boxing team from round about the 1950`s P.B.

Oops, Sorry John for the long delay. Don't know any other members of the squad. These were family pictures. Handed down over the years.

Hi. I grew up with the 1st Kings Reg and traveled all over the world with them. I was only a kid but knew a lot of the boxing team. I cant be 100% certain but the picture seems to be of Jimmy Weir who was a friend of dads. He had a cousin called Tommy Shannon who was also on the team, both very good heavyweights. Maybe these names will help your search. WV Ritson Milnrow.
