Hi. Not up on cloth and a friend has asked what this patch is. Thanks for any help, Paul.

All I can see is a dark(black) square. Can you lighten it??

Yes - 1940s - 1960s. I believe that maroon was worn to the front. I'll check when I am next in UK (later April).
