Cloth Embroidered Insignia Royal Observer Corps 1953
Hi Team
Going by our friend Mr Wiki , this would be Civil Defence c 1953(1947-1996)-onwards. Again I dont know what the term would be to describe these badges! Would these be known as Association Blazer badges? By the bullion Patina this appears to be 50's made and worn there after. Any info on this style of construction or annectdotes much appreciated. I like the motto: Forewarned is Forearmed cheers Phill |

Again, not the expert, but the black backing in looking at the obverse it seems a little rough compared to blazer badges and I have and have seen. Is it small enough that it might be a cap or beret badge?

Hi Terry
The badge measures 90mm H x 80mm W. To me it looks like a Blazer badge. Hopefully some one could chime in to give more info. Its well worn and has seen better days. cheers Phill |

You have called it Phil - its an ROC Blazer badge with the post 1953 design of badge on it. It could have been worn all the way through to the stand down of the corps - indeed I know many members of the Royal Observer Corps Association (ROCA) who still wear ROC blazer badges on occasions such as remembrance day parades.
I have images of 20+ different blazer badge designs and counting.

Thanks Barry
for the confirmation. Cheers Woofy How close is this Blazer badge to the ones you have and would you consider it 53-60's made rather than 1980-1996 period made. It has remnance of black paper backing that once covered the back. cheers for the replies Phill |

Hi Phil
I have uploaded images that I have of blazer badges to an album - I don't have all of these, think I have about 20 varieties in my own collection. Link here: https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...p?albumid=4544 Age wise I am not sure, but would probably go 1960's without having it in hand Best Wishes Dave

Thanks Dave
Much appreciated you uploading the blazer patches. I did not think there would be so many variations but when one looks at how long a unit has been in service and the many manufatcurers producing them over the years quite a nice collection. I notice you have mentioned cleaned badge , would that mean you have cleaned it yourself and if so how can I clean my one? The one I have is similar to badge 20 and 19. cheers Phill |

Hi Phil
Just the image is cleaned (back ground removed) and in some cases rotated slightly - I tend to leave all my actual cloth badges untouched whenever possible, unless it looks like they will deteriorate. If you are looking for the best way to clean a badge - there is the thread I would go to https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...read.php?t=745 Covers both metal and cloth badges (cloth ones being mentioned later on). Best Wishes Dave
