Default Royal Signals - Gershuny or Garson

I'm trying to find out about my friend's fathers WW2 service. His name was Walter Gershuny but he might have enlisted as Walter Garson (he anglicised the Jewish name and the family is Garson to this day). He believes he might have been in the Royal Signals. He was in the Normandy campaign - landing D-Day +4 or so. He survived the war. Would really appreciate any help members might be able to give. Tim
