Question Royal Scots Greys busby back thistle badge

Hi all,

I wouldn't mind an opinion if I have identified this correctly. All GM thistle badge measuring 84x77mm with three long, substantial lugs. Join of the thistle to the thistle sprays reinforced with metal overlay to rear.

I think it is the back badge to the busby of the Royal Scots Greys.

Any thoughts to confirm or correct appreciated, cheers Dean.

Dean, the RSG bearskin back badge was the White Horse of Hanover, in white metal. Note, they wore the bearskin, not the busby!!.

Hi Dean

i missed one down here in Melbourne, way too expensive for me. However i think that it is a sabertache ornament, but I could be wrong.

Keep up the good work.

Phil.

Thanks Phil - RSG do you think - museum enquiry I would think, you were just saving your money for those very nice Colonial badges, cheers Dean.

Hi Dean

Sorry for the delay, I tried to reply last night but everything just locked up so l backed it out and shut it down

Yes definately RSG, my old mate was a specialist Scottish collector and had all his badges mounted on boards by regiment. The thistle was with the RSG group sold in Melb in Nov but I was out bid and the dealer who bought it just wanted way too much so I passed on it. l did get a few other pieces including a RSG plaid broach which I can send you a photo of if you like.

Regards

Phil.

PS when we getting together for pizza and Red ??

Thanks Phil,

The thistle badge is indeed RSG and was worn on the bearskin below the plume holder with White Horse of Hanover as the back badge.

I traded some items and got it that way. Plaid broach sound nice.

Will let you know on Melbourne, less frequent visits these days, cheers Dean.
