Default Fife And Forfar Imperial Yeo badge?

Hi all

Can't find any reference to this badge in any of my books?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3713158806...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Cheers

Colin

And what is the question? You want a book recommendation?

As I see it, it is a cap badge of The Fifeshire and Forfarshire Imperial Yeomanry somewhere during their existence as such from 1901 - 1908. After that they drooped the word Imperial and added (TF) and adopted another, well known badge

Well, maybe I do need some new reference books, as I don't see this particular badge represented in any of the ones I have.
Also, in the pictures I've seen of the F&F Imp Yeo, they're not wearing this badge.
Just piqued my interest, is all, and interested to find out more about it.

Hi Ricardo - thanks for the heads up!
Do you by chance know if this is modelled off an original or is it a fantasy badge?

Cheers

Colin

Colin,

That is modelled on the correct F&F IY badge in white metal.

K&K Fig. 1351.

regards

They should, else they aren't from the Fifeshire and Forfarshire Imperial Yeomanry. Isn't that were the cap badges are for: identifying the unit?

Yes, correctly identified as being worn by F&F IY.

W.H & K.D Bloomer (1982) got this one correct, despite getting the Thane arm badge wrong. The badge in question was an officer Thane found in silver and bronze. However, there is a photo of a Corporal wearing it on his right arm. Here is a photo from GriffMJ's album.

Longshanks had an OR's badge of F&F IY. It is similar to the long-running Thane except it has strengtheners at the rear.

Best wishes,

Garry

The photo is dated 1908, I assume this is of the F&F Y, not the IY. Hence the different badge.

Don't forget though the normal Yeomanry rules apply to the wearing of badges...simply put, there were not many rules or rules were not enforced. The procurement of badges was at times; beg, steal or borrow. This mantra led to collars and S/Ts being worn as cap badges, and head dress badges worn on the arm etc. There is plenty of evidence throughout the posts of this forum that this was common practice and it is why I find Yeomanry collecting so fascinating.
