Help please with this ' Sweetheart ' Is this the badge of the British Indian Army 63 Pamacottah Light Infantry?

If not any idea's what it is please?

Hi Destro, yes it's to the 63rd Palamcotta Light Infantry it looks like it's a left hand collar badge converted into a sweetheart brooch - I'm assuming it's gilt not gold? Tim

Hi Tim

Thanks for the positive ID, it is a little small for a collar, I have not had it tested yet, but it did cross my mind..... there are no hall marks or makers marks on te reverse.

The cap badge and the collars are illustrated in Nath's Sepoys and Sowars - the cap badge is quite small and the bugle faces the other way - the collars do look small but he doesn't give measurements. Tim

Many of the IA units were late to adopt collar dogs at all - post WWI - and when they did they often appear rto have been smaller than what is considered 'normal' for British, Canadian and so on.

Although some time since my original post, due to Hols I have only just found time to have this badge tested and yes it is Gold
