Default id on Royal Engineers Territorials circa 1920s

My Grandfather JW Plaster was in the Territorials RE in the early 20s and I suspect this photo was taken around that time. Any suggestions on what collar badges he is wearing? Thanks

The side cap was much more common in late 30s/early 40s. The tunic and collar were replaced by early 40s with BD. Was he TA at the start of WW2?

Standard RE flaming bomb collars with UBIQUE scroll. The one I have shown is an officers service dress version. The universal pattern field service cap was introduced in 1937.

Collar badges were worn on SD jackets from around 1922. When battle dress was introduced in a prioritised and slow roll out from 1937 onwards some units wore collar badges in the same manner as they had become used to. This gradually faded as the cloth shoulder titles and formation signs became available and had largely ceased by 1940.

I would say that he is wearing Service Dress (SD) in khaki serge with the Buff belt with Universal Locket (buckle) from the 1888 Slade Wallace equipment set.

Yes I agree with Grey Green Acorn and would add that service dress became the universal field and general working dress from 1902 onwards until it was gradually replaced by battle dress from 1937. However, there were so many suits of SD available that they could still be seen in boy soldier units as late as the mid 1960s.
