Green Beret Query
I've had this one for quite a while in storage and would like to get it out and display it.
Can anyone help identify what badge would have gone on it? It is dark green with an obvious round outline of a badge with what appears to be north - south lugs. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bill

Manufactured around 1979, I don't know what badge would've been fitted (the only badges I can think of at all that might fit that impression are RN and Mons Officer Cadet School, which was closed in 1972, and had lugs around W/E rather than N/S).
Circular impression due to a stiff coloured badge backing being worn? An OTC badge? |

Rifle green beret worn by (amongst others), Light Infantry, Royal Green Jackets, Women’s Royal Army Corps, Small Arms School Corps, Ulster Defence Regiment and Gurkha Infantry Regiments. The only one if those with a circular shaped badge is SASC
Might be way off the mark …. Paul |

Would the circle be a badge backing of some sort? Trainee?

The stock number is for a Rifle Green beret.

Thanks for the input.
I did wonder if it could be a badge backing but couldn't think of any that would have been fitted to that colour beret. I don't know if any OTCs wore this colour beret that might have a round badge. It still remains a bit of a mystery Thanks, Bill

I thought the impression in the beret looked like a Mons badge. But the last issue anodised badge had east and west lugs. Although, the belt buckle badge was the same and that had north and south lugs.

Mike,
I did consider a belt buckle badge but couldn't figure out what round one it could be. I found this image of what might be a buckle badge which might fit. Did Mons OCS wear a green beret? Bill

We're/ are coloured backings used to differentiate between Gurkha sub unit's during basic training?

This had occurred to me but I thought it was a bit of a push and wasn't sure if the badges lugs were north/south (they are) - the King's Own Yorkshire Yeomanry (LI), the brass backing plate worn inside the beret and causing wear on the outside?

Hi Leigh,
Wow, never thought of that. I've got one of these badges so will give it a try to see if it fits. Bill

Tried out the KOYY(LI) badge for size on this one but it's slightly too small. Also the inside of the beret shows no signs of the badge backing.
The circle on the outside of the beret is 4cm in diameter, so still no idea what this one could be for. Bill

That is a good call mate - and there are versions with N/S lugs. Only MSO I ever saw in BAOR had the standard blue beret though.
