Those lugs look like they are copper, I thought they should be brass for this period of badge?

..looking at the examples on Coldstream....colouring looks similiar to some of the lugs on their shako plates ..or my wishful thinking...someone must have a definitive answer.

Unfortunately there is no definitive answer for these Last Shako plates, just as with the pre territorial Glengarry badges, because everyone has their own opinion. I have collected Victorian badges for many years and have owned and handled originals and copies and this is of course just my opinion.
Yours is in MHO not original. They have been reproduced to death over the years and got better, sometimes worse and better again. To me, the colour isnt right, the quality isnt up to scratch and its got no patina for what I would expect for a badge that is a minimum of 144 years old. It has chemical staining to the bottom, to create the illusion of age and cast doubt on its newness. The loops however are nicely fitted and they can be brass but also appear in copper. regards
