Default US (Cap) badge Help please

This badge came with a few British & German badges at a local auction, and although I have gone threw a few books I can ID it.....
Can anyone help please?

Odd badge you have there Destro perhaps a school or collage badge.

Let's hope someone will recognise it.

What are the fittings on the back? It looks like an incomplete US Army cap badge; possible a sweetheart type?

Hi

It has a screw screw thread typical of US cap badges almost half an inch long. hope that helps.... it does not appear to have anything detached / broken off.

The eagle has the remains of the motto scroll in it's beak so the badge has obviously been cut down at some point. Given the lack of tail feathers as well it looks a case of severe mutilation to me!!.
