ORs brass badge, different from previous posts.
Below is the only photo I have seen of brass badges being worn. Well before the 1916 issues. T/6/RH A Coy in the trenches at Festubert June 1915, they had only been in France for 4 weeks. Pte Dean, L/Cpl Newel, Majury and L/Cpl Willis. Im not sure who's who in the photo. On the 10th June Newel & Willis were killed while out on a patrol in no-mans-land. Dean was one of three men to retrieve their bodies, he was awarded the Croix-de- Guerre. Wauchope Vol 11 pp131. Last edited by rmarsden; 27-07-19 at 04:14 PM. |

What an excellent photo.
From your reference to a 1916 pattern badge are you thinking of a brass badge as being a British economy issue rather than a Canadian badge or am I misunderstanding? |

A very poignant picture considering the eventual fate of these men. Thanks for sharing. I too am puzzled with the brass badge .. particularly as so many people say they were not issued to the UK Black Watch ?? Regards Jeff |

What this photo proves is that this Bn were wearing brass badges in the trenches in 1915, before economy badges were even thought of.
The badge shown is different pattern to previous badge shown in post no 149, and different from the Canadian patterns in no 144. Ron. |

I may be off target here, but could the badge be the OR's bronze one that you showed a few posts back?
My mistake - the bronzed badge you showed was a post 1936 pattern in a different thread. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 27-07-19 at 04:08 PM. Reason: My mistake. |

That is certainly interesting, I don't think I've ever come across one before.

Frank,
Have seen cast plaid brooches with Laurie tablets, but this is only badge I have seen. Ron. |

I too have never seen a cast badge like this. The Lawrie tablet looks to have been cast integrally along with the rest of the badge.
Could this possibly have been done in India or somewhere; a bazaar badge? CB |

I include this post in this section as it shows badges worn circa 1910.

Sealed pattern small RH dated 1927. According to Westlake this pattern changed to curved Black Watch in 1921. Obviously not for Territorial Bns see my post 152 in this thread.
