Hi,

The guelphic crown with the accompanying VR obviously date the piece pre 1901, but as to which specific unit it belonged I’m afraid I am unable to say. I would however suggest that in the absence of a unit name, and taking into account those entitled to bare the Royal Motto: “God and my right”, that it could also be a generic piece that may have adorned the harnesses of a number of mounted units, as well as those of: Mounted Infantry Officer’s.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Zob.

It's the GS pattern worn by units without a special pattern.

15 years working cattle using horses including two years working on some of the best cattle ranches in the United States tells me that it is a crupper.

British for sure, but I suppose it could be worn by Australian units?
