Is it a standard size or slightly larger?

Members of the 1st Armoured Regiment wore a silver coloured (probably nickel plated) oversize Rising Sun badge around 1948-1952 or thereabout.

Thanks guys , I would of thought it was very rare as there are no badges of this type anywhere on the internet , hardly any mention either of them

Hi,
I believe the nurses also wore this on there collars in Korea before they got the RAANC badge. Search internet on nursing corps 1948-1950 period and you should find some pictures.

It's not overly rare - I'd rate it as just uncommon.

i think nursing corps wore nickel collar size badges on cap and cape. i dont think they wore hat size badges as i dont think they were issued slouch hats.

Very early Guard of Honor by the 1st Armoured Regiment for the Queens visit early 1950's. Note the beret badge, the Armoured Regiment badge had not been issued and so they wore a silver rising sun. This badge had to be returned and your armoured Regiment badge issued not long after

i would say its scarce

More info to add ,

It has been confirmed that after this parade , the silver rising sun badges had to be handed in .

Then the new issue badge was handed out. Approx Year 1953

G'day Aussie,

Queen Elizabeth first toured Australia in 1954, I saw her in Melb when I was 8. So that would also date the photo to 1954.

Regards

Phil.
