All good points on "the badge".....

But really isn't it all relative to what someone can afford.

"The badge" in question compared to supposedly cheaper one's. I mean I've asked for pics of badges from the "dealers" , and you get pitted manky old piece of junk for maybe half of what that one went for agreed, but I myself am looking for framable samples with patina and age, but as tidy as i can get for the that age. So an extra couple of pounds isn't really an issue. If you want it and you can afford, who cares.

Anyway.....I think the original question on the thread should be pursued, and move on.

P.S. I do agree on the postage cost, a little rough; but I'm use to it over here in the Colonies.

I said I wasn't going to get involved but after reading this thread I need to voice my opinions

The others are still on there or didn't sell and removed, the one shown on here and receiving approval did sell for more than quite a bit more than the others.

Madness; Lunacy; Ridiculous and Absurd are adjectives that have been used in relation to this siuation in the last few posts; well chosen words......In my opinion they sum up the position perfectly.

Is this the way forward?...........The Forum being used as a clearing house and a medium for free advertising prior to items being offered.

Not good.

Hi Brian,
I can understand how you feel about the forum and how you percieve it may go in the future, I'm sorry if I had a hand in anything that happens in the future. I had a look for said badge's and couldn't find the ones you meant. I only found listings for badges with small pictures usually just the front or a damaged badge. If you could point me to these badges I could probably tell you why my badge made the price it did and not just because it was posted on this forum. I have been an internet trader for 7 years and I am pretty good at my job.

Yes you've said your piece but still you keep chipping. Bloody expensive is not £1 or £2 more than anyone else - get real. If I offered free postage you'd still find something to moan about.

Yes it costs. I had to pay a specialist organisation in order to get a "certificate of authenticity" for specific stamps (the BPA - one of two that do this for Brit Emp. stamps). There are also a number of catalogues which at least provide a 'range' of values (Stan Gibbons). However, when I posted these comments a few years ago. It died a death. One of these days, this is going to have to happen..... I believe I see a business opportunity here somewhere..........

Maybe I should post pictures of every one of my badges and request a valuation before setting a start price on ebay. Wouldn't that be fun?

I am personally very suspicious about postings that are along the lines of "what is this worth" etc etc etc. The stock answer to these sorts of questions should be "whatever someone is willing to pay for it".

That's it from me for the week. To my forum and real friends, Ciao.
And good hunting - whatever it costs you.......
Not a dig but would just like to point out than I never once asked for a valuation as it makes no difference to me - all my listings regardless of value start at £4.99.

I don't envy Mike's job trying to keep the peace, I am currently getting an album together for the forum of every badge I sell with prices as a sort of a thank you for all the help I recieved and a sorry to all members who I have upset ( except Dave - just kidding - it's for you as well )

Regards Ben

Bren, Personally, I'm getting pig sick of thread starters "Hi all, Can anyone tell me if this is a good 'un?". You've become a "Forum veteran" on the basis of over 200 thread starters such as this and over 200 responses such as "Thanks X" or "Cheers Y" and of these responses, some even carry on with further Questions concerning something you wish to sell. Sure, some of the stuff you sell is very nice and your offer to have an album showing all that passes through your hands is commendable but please, could you not consider doing your business research and marketing elsewhere? The 80 odd comments you've made outside of direct questions or thanks are surely not worthy of you being elevated to "Veteran" status (and I know that title is beyond your control). Again, you've stated in an earlier post that you have been selling on Ebay for seven years and you're "good at it". Well, please, research from other mediums, put it on at your customary 4.99 and be happy. STOP HOGGING THE POSTS FOR PROFIT!

Yes Ben,

I do keep chipping in, you don't like constructive criticism, I do applaud your sales record, I've never said a word against your badges, I never wanted you to say sorry to me, why should you but you do appear to have half the members wrapped around your little finger.

David J is right, your posts seem endless and I get the impression that you are turning this forum into another ' Wikipedia ' for your own ends, the new forum rules dictate no personal attacks on other members, so this isn't an attack on you personally but just my observations.

Dave.

Read post number 40 -" A new way of peddling fakes", on the Fakes ,restrikes and copies section to see the very same subject matter.
Bear in mind I've been a contributing member for over 3 years and look at my tally.....newbie in relation to the amount of posts.
Cheers.

I'm in favour of abolishing the New Member/Member/Forum Veteran/Badge Guru subdivision altogether, as it favours quantity over quality, and the forum should be all about the latter.

Rgds,

"Ask not what the Forum can do for you, ask what you can do for the Forum"

So true...
